Im insane Im sure

One of my best friends is getting married in a month and I am honoured to be a bridesmaid. Now as far as brides go she has been pretty damn easy to please, no bridzilla antics yet....(noting we still have a month to go!)

So I decided that I would like to throw her a lunch to celebrate, she suggested we all go out somewhere nice, "no no no" I declared, Id love to host it at home. So I ask her for the guest list and of course assumed there would be around 10 of us. She invited 28 and Im now hosting a lunch for 22.......ekk

First things first, what am I going to serve these people? Ive gone with Quiche, salads and marinated chicken fillets. Ok menu sorted.

Secondly I don't have a table big enough for these people to sit out - Ive asked around and my husband is now at 8pm at night galavanting around the neighbourhood chasing down trestles and chairs.

Thirdly - I actually now have to be friendly when really Id like to hide for the weekend. Can't do much about that, I have to get out my greatest pagent smile and double layer the vaseline to make sure those lips don't slip.

Im sure it will be a lovely day, but seriously, if ever I open my big mouth again, please someone remind me, and give me a kick in the backside when I start suggesting that Im happy to have it at home.

For the love?

Today has been one of those days where I have absolutely loved my job, but hated it also.

I left this morning at 6.45am to drive an hour and a half for an all day management meeting and then drove home this evening and got home at 7pm.

The good: A stimulating day, with lots of interesting and new information plus special accolades in front of the whole staff for my team.

The bad: Ollie woke up just as I was leaving and was whingy whiny because he wanted breakfast, and then I picked him up from my mother in law this evening and put him straight to bed when I got home, so Ive missed my time with him today

The Ugly: Ive just eaten hot chips for dinner, when I vowed that this week I would eat healthy all week (Until Saturday when Im hosting a lunch for friends) plus Im tired and when my husband gets home from football training Ill probably be too tired to actually converse with him.

Tired....Oh so tired

Last night is possibly one of the worst nights we have ever had with our 18 month old Ollie. He has had a cough for about 2 months now and we have had repeat visits to the Dr.

Last night was possibly the worst its been. The poor little poppit kept waking up from coughing, then crying, then coughing, then more crying then more coughing...you get the drift. We finally at midnight put him in our bed so we could all get a little sleep - that lasted about 2 hours. Themn he wanted his own bed, so back he went, then more coughing, more crying, back to our bed, a little more sleep and the cycle started again. I feel like someone slapped in me in the face with a dead fish and the bones got stuck in my eyes.

Then of course I have to go to work today, I have to actually manage people, give out advice, be a role model. Do you think that sleeping at your desk could be classed as looking after yourself?

Poor Ollie has had no sleep today and has gone to bed at 6pm. I hope its not a night like last night, but if it is, I think we'll be visiting emergency. My sleep bank is in overdraft.

There are husbands cursing mine today

And I write this as I sit eating leftover violet crumble cheese cake, lovingly made from scratch - yes scratch by my Husband.

My evening was lovely, the company of good friends, lots of good chatter and of course some wonderful food. I have to give my husband some credit, he really knows how to entertain, and to add to that, hes not scared to try something new. 4 new recipes tonight made by him and all an outstounding success.

Comment from friend no. 1: Do you do cooking lessons for mates.

Comment from friend no. 2: You put mine to shame

Comment from friend no 3: Why won't mine do this.

Friend no 2's other half turns up this morning giving mine a ribbing, we are going to have to start glorifying the others a little bit or those girls won't be allowed to visit me anymore.

I got some lovely gifts, a beautiful bunch of flowers and some earrings which are pink and perfect. (Anything pink is perfect in my opinion). I love my times with my friends.

I must add a post script to this addition also, considering Im talking about how wonderful my husband is. The rugby team that he coaches just made it into the Grandfinal today. How exciting!!

Happy Birthday to me

It was my birthday on Tuesday. As I don't work Friday's we decided that today would be the day to celebrate, so my husband organised for us to have family photos and has invited some of my closest girlfriends over and is cooking us a Tapas feast.

The photo shoot was fun, but can I say I have given birth to the worlds greatest poser. Just put a camera in his face and watch that smile, he twists and turns in all the right directions and smiles right on cue!! We have tried hard to go for the natural, random shots but i don't know, my little model in the making may have glammed it up just a little - stay tuned, we should have the photos back next week.

Tonight should be fun although all our Husbands are away (except mine) (which means kids in tow) for a bucks weekend - mine has to stay home for Rugby and will catch them all up tomorrow, then Im a widow until Sunday.

And on that note, a pondering...why is it that the men always have to make a weekend of the whole bucks things yet we ladies end up having luncheon, or at best a night out. I defintely think somehow we pulled the short straw along the line.

Hi I'm Polly

Welcome to the blog of a reluctantly working mum. Really its just another working mum blog, a place where I can share my thoughts, loves, my day and whatever else I choose when I have a few moments spare.

I have two beautiful little boys, a gorgeous daughter and a Rugby mad husband, our life is busy, sometimes chaotic and lots of times crazy, but we always manage a lot of fun and lots of laughs. Laughs are the glue that hold us all together.

I love reading, cooking, food, fashion, interiors, friends, photography and travel. Not neccesarily in that order but these are my great loves and the things that take up the very small amount of time I have to myself.

I look forward to getting to know you and I thank you for visiting.
