Patience is a virtue

I am lacking today.

Ever have one of those days/weeks/months where you have to remind yourself to breathe and count to ten before you lose it completely?

Well Im there, seriously there, in fact I may have already lost it and Im so there that I haven't even realised its lost.

So breath and count. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

Three year olds are hard work somedays. Tantrums, I want, I need, You get it for me, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy. Arggghhh and again I repeat argggghhhhh.

And now that feels a little better. I love being a mummy but sheesh these last few days have been hard ones.

"Year of Wonders" by Geraldine Brooks


Wow. What a fantastic book. This book had me right from the beginning and is now a firm favourite.

I quite like historical fiction. Especially if the story is inspired by events of the past which "Year of Wonders" most certainly was. The author Geraldine Brooks stumpled apon the town of Eyam - more commonly known as the plauge village and crafted this fantastic book on its story and events in 1665.

You have probably guessed that this story is based on the plague. In 1666 an infected bolt of cloth finds its way to an isolated village and tells the story of how the plague effects the village and its inhabitants, through the eyes of Anna.

This story took me to places I can never go. It gave me a glimpse into a time I have only heard about but until now had trouble understanding just how gripping the days of the plague must have been.

I absolutely loved this story, and if you enjoy a little slice of history, this is a book I highly recommend.

5 out of 5, I can't wait to read it again and explore more stories written by Geraldine Brooks.

Brrrr, Im not ready for you winter

Yesterday was a funny day. We all got up in the morning, I went to the gym in 3/4 tights and a t shirt, came home got ready to go out again walked outside and froze. Sometime between coming home from the gym and deciding to go out again the temperature dropped considerably, reminding me that winter is not too far away.

I hate winter, I don't want it to come, If I had unlimited funds I would follow summer around the world. I can just imagine a little villa overlooking the worlds great summer destinations.

And so Ive gone into Winter overdrive, pulling out the winter woolies, stocktaking what the boys have and what they need and sending my beautiful little sister on shopping expeditions (she lives in Sydney and just happens to get a considerable discount on one of my most favourite little boy's labels)

Im not sure Im ready for you Winter but Ill damn well be prepared nonetheless.

Well if anything at least Winter is a good reason to pull out the red wine!

Someone remind me

Next year that chocolate and my son are a lethal combination. Seriously, if anyone has any energy left to burn, Im happy to hire out my son to assist.

I took myself to the supermarket on Thursday night to ensure that we could do our Easter Bunny duties and lets just say I got a little carried away in the excitment.

Honestly when I brought home all those eggs I really wondered if it was enough. When I showed my DD he looked at me and said "Are you insane"....."really?" I said, theres not much there....

I had my blinkers on. Ollie is going to be eating chocolate for weeks, and we will be suffering, because as it turns out, chocolate and Ollie are like bicarb soda mixed with vinegar...an explosion that you just can't stop.

It was all worth it though just to see his face this morning when he discovered that the Easter Bunny had been. (Note to self to exploit Easter Bunny more next year) and all the oos and ahhs and laughs and giggles when he found eggs hidden all over the house.

Guess mummy and daddy may just have to help out with his stash, and hope he doesn't catch us out!!!
